Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Gonks of Gardenshillock?
The Gonks of Gardenshillock is a magical outdoor storybook trail where children can explore the homes of the Gonks, complete interactive tasks, enjoy our play park and visit our coffee spot.
How long does a visit last?
Most families spend between 1.5 and 2 hours with us, although this can vary depending on the season and event.
Is the trail guided?
No. The experience is fully self-led, allowing families to explore at their own pace.
What age is the trail suitable for?
The trail is suitable for walking children up to 12 years old. Activities are carefully designed to engage a wide range of ages and abilities, from toddlers to older children.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. All visits must be booked online in advance.
Can I buy tickets on arrival?
No. We are a pre-booked attraction and cannot guarantee availability for walk-in visitors.
Do all children need a ticket?
Yes. All children who are walking around the trail require a ticket.
Are babies free?
Non-walking babies under 1 year old attending in a pram, buggy or carrier are free when accompanying a paying child.
What is included in my ticket?
Your ticket includes access to the storybook trail, interactive activities, play park and a complimentary seasonal children’s treat.
Is the trail suitable for pushchairs?
Yes. The trail path is fully buggy friendly.
Is the trail wheelchair accessible?
The trail path is fully wheelchair accessible. Some interactive activities may require slight adaptation or assistance to participate in, but we have worked hard to make the experience as inclusive as possible.
What happens if it rains?
We’re in Scotland, so we’ve planned for that! We open in almost all weather conditions and have lots of little shelters throughout the trail to help make rainy and windy days enjoyable. We only close if weather conditions make the site unsafe.
What should we wear?
We recommend weather-appropriate clothing and sensible footwear. Even on dry days, the meadow and gardens are best explored in comfortable outdoor shoes.
Can we bring our dog?
No. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted on site.
Can we bring a picnic?
No. Outside food and drink are not permitted on site.
Do you have a café?
Yes. Our coffee spot serves hot and cold drinks, traybakes, snacks, ice cream and seasonal treats.
Do you cater for allergies?
We offer alternative options where possible. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival regarding any allergies or dietary requirements.
Is there parking available?
Yes. Free parking is available for all visitors.
Are there toilets on site?
Yes. Toilet facilities are available on site.
Can children attend without an adult?
No. Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.
Do you offer group visits?
Yes. We welcome nurseries, schools, childminders, community groups and other organised visits. Please get in touch for availability and pricing.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for full details regarding amendments, transfers and cancellations.
Are the Gonks real?
Absolutely! They’re just very shy. Visitors can explore their homes and discover their busy jobs, but Gonks prefer not to be seen. The best way to spot one is to remember to see with your heart.
